Tunbridge Ware is a specific type of decorative woodware characterised by mosaic veneer, produced primarily in Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge, Kent, during the 18th and 19th centuries.

Pieces were crafted using a wide variety of British and foreign timbers to exploit natural colour variations. Craftsmen glued thousands of tiny wood blocks together to form geometric or pictorial mosaics, which were then sliced thinly for veneer.

Authentic pieces feature microscopic wood tesserae forming detailed designs, often accompanied by characteristic bandings and sometimes original maker labels or retailers stamps on the base.

Such small-scale decorative objects work exceptionally well when displayed in collections on open shelving, within glass cabinets, or styled atop side tables to add texture and historical interest.

Keep wooden treen out of direct sunlight and away from fluctuating humidity to prevent the fragile veneer from drying out or lifting. Dust gently with a dry, soft cloth and avoid chemical polishes.
