FAQs

Late Georgian sofa tables emerged during the late 18th to early 19th century, characterised by rectangular tops with drop leaves, paired draw leaves or frieze drawers, and sturdy central pedestals or pillar supports often terminating in splayed legs.

Cabinet makers predominantly used dense tropical hardwoods such as Honduras or Cuban mahogany, frequently incorporating flame mahogany veneers on the top surfaces, secondary pine or oak for drawer linings, and cast brass paw castors.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawers, traditional timber shrinkage, hand-turned components, original brass hardware, and a warm, aged patination developed over centuries of use.

Positioned prominently behind a sofa or against a hallway wall, a sofa table provides functional surface area while introducing rich wood tones, historical character, and tactile warmth into modern minimalist spaces.

Maintain antique timber by keeping it away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent veneer cracking, applying natural beeswax periodically, and avoiding silicone-based polishes.
