Tea tables emerged in the late 17th century as tea became a popular and expensive commodity in Britain and Ireland, requiring specialised furniture for social rituals.

These pieces were typically constructed from dense tropical hardwoods such as Cuban or Santo Domingo mahogany, featuring mortise and tenon joinery and hand-carved details.

Authenticity is determined by examining timber shrinkage, hand-cut dovetails, tool marks, patination, and traditional construction methods consistent with the 18th century.

It functions effectively as a console table against a wall or unfolded as a side surface, contrasting traditional woodwork with modern minimalist surroundings.

Maintain the timber by avoiding direct sunlight, keeping relative humidity stable, and treating periodically with microcrystalline wax rather than modern silicone polishes.
