A nineteenth-century French terrestrial globe curated by Charles Auguste Perigot and drawn by Alfred Moureaux sits as a decorative object in a gentleman's library. The piece consists of a spherical paper-covered body with printed gores showing muted green and brown cartography, topped by a rounded dark finial. A central axis spindle passes through the globe, mounting it securely upon a turned ebonised wooden base with stepped mouldings and a circular foot. Surface wear appears across the paper map as minor fading and scratches appropriate for its age. The item stands 24 cm high, 13 cm wide, and 13 cm deep. Positioned on an office desk or a bookshelf, the globe brings traditional scholarly character to a study or workspace interior. The dark wooden support provides a solid foundation contrasting against the aged paper sphere, while the compact proportions allow it to fit neatly amongst books or decorative accessories. Maintenance requires only gentle dusting with a dry cloth to protect the paper surface and the ebonised finish from moisture damage.

A terrestrial globe is a three-dimensional scale model of Earth, historically created for navigation, geography education, and cartographic reference. Miniature desktop versions gained popularity during the nineteenth century for home study decor.

Traditional globes feature printed paper gores pasted over a hollow sphere made from plaster or papier-mache. The central sphere is mounted on a metal spindle supported by a turned wood, brass, or ebonised base.

Age is determined by analyzing political boundaries, place names, cartographic publisher imprints, and natural paper aging alongside hand-coloured detailing and original surface varnish.

Small desktop globes function well when displayed on a bookshelf, mantlepiece, or desk alongside leather-bound books and brass instruments to introduce subtle historic detail to a room scheme.

Keep the globe away from direct sunlight, dampness, and heat sources to prevent cracking and discolouration. Gently remove surface dust using a dry, soft-bristle brush without applying water or chemical cleaners.
