Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian fruitwood lace bobbin winder belongs to the category of antique treen and textile tools, displaying a warm golden brown colour across its turned wooden components. The Victorian piece comprises a hand-turned fruitwood body equipped with a screw clamp mechanism at the base, a grooved pulley wheel in the centre, and an iron hand crank handle with a wooden grip. Decorative turned spindles and rounded finials adorn the structure, alongside minor surface wear marks on the timber barrel. Measuring 40.5 cm high, 16.5 cm wide, and 10 cm deep, this item possesses compact proportions suitable for various display spaces. In a modern interior, this lace bobbin winder functions as a decorative tabletop accessory or shelf ornament, fitting neatly onto a bookshelf within a study, living room, or hallway. The warm timber tones and traditional mechanical elements complement rustic farmhouse decor styles. Collectors of antique textile equipment or wooden treen will find it suitable for integration into existing displays of vintage implements or period curiosities.

FAQs

An antique lace bobbin winder is a mechanical hand tool traditionally used by lace makers to wind thread smoothly and evenly onto wooden bobbins prior to lacemaking.

These tools were predominantly hand-turned from dense hardwoods such as fruitwood, boxwood, or oak, featuring wooden screw clamps, metal cranks, and turned pulleys.

Authentic historical winders display signs of hand-lathe turning, minor thread pitch variations on screw mechanisms, natural wood patination, and gentle friction wear on contact points.

Display the piece as a tactile sculptural object on a bookshelf, mantelpiece, or within a glass shadow box alongside historic textile collections.

Dust gently using a soft dry brush and apply a microcrystalline wax or natural beeswax polish sparingly to maintain timber patination while protecting against humidity.
