FAQs

The George IV period, spanning from 1820 to 1830, bridges Regency and early Victorian design, often featuring robust classical proportions, heavy pedestals, and rich figured wood veneers like burr oak or mahogany.

These tables typically utilised a solid pine or oak secondary wood carcass overlaid with decorative hardwood veneers, featuring pivot or swing-leg mechanisms to support the folded top.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-correct joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, traditional shellac French polish finishes, and natural timber shrinkage rather than modern mechanical fastenings.

Placing a versatile fold-over table against a wall as a console allows it to function as a sculptural accent piece when not in use for entertaining.

Maintain stable indoor humidity levels away from direct heat sources and sunlight, applying high-quality beeswax periodically to nourish and protect the polished wooden surface.
