Description

A Barr, Flight and Barr Worcester Porcelain covered Tureen & Stand c.1805. Finely decorated all over with a variation of the 'Holly Berry' pattern, painted with garlands of green leaves and red berries around gilt-scroll brackets, the centre with a puce herringbone band. Both the lid, bowl and stand with a band of applied 'pearls',  the lid with flamiform finial, the bowl with two eagles head handles and classical gilded palmettes.

The 'Holly Berry' pattern which is similar to the 'Earl Manvers Pattern', is a member of the 'Hop Trellis' family of Worcester patterns inspired by Sèvres.

Literature: Worcester Porcelain, 1751-1851, John Sandon, Page 228 and 229.  The authors state that this is one of the most elaborate and colourful of the many variations of the 'Hop Trellis' pattern inspired by Sevres.

Condition: Excellent with just a small chip to the flamiform finial. Original factory marks now erased.

Date of Manufacture

Fine Antique English Porcelain has dated this Regency Porcelain Tureen and Stand to the Georgian era.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Regency porcelain is characterised by classical neoclassical motifs, rich gilding, enamel detailing, and influences from Greek and Roman art.

Factories such as Barr, Flight and Barr utilised fine bone china or soft-paste porcelain bodies, hand-painted polychrome enamel decorations, and raised gold gilding applied by skilled artisans.

Authentic items frequently feature factory impressed or painted factory marks on the base, hand-painted numbering, high-quality translucent porcelain bodies, and precise hand-gilt craftsmanship characteristic of the period.

An antique tureen makes an effective focal point when displayed on a sideboard, within a glazed cabinet, or as a centrepiece on a dining table to add historical texture and classic elegance.

Antique porcelain requires gentle hand washing in lukewarm water with mild detergent using a soft cloth, avoiding abrasive sponges, dishwashers, and harsh chemicals to preserve delicate enamel and gold leaf.
