Edwardian furniture, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, often draws inspiration from earlier Georgian and Sheraton revivals, favouring lighter proportions, delicate marquetry, and brighter woods compared to heavy Victorian designs.

These tables are traditionally constructed from fine hardwoods such as mahogany, satinwood, or walnut, utilising geometric wood veneer patterns known as parquetry or marquetry, secured with animal hide glue and finished with shellac polish.

Authentication involves examining the construction joints, timber oxidation, hand-cut veneers, and traditional hand-applied French polish finishes, noting that genuine antique pieces exhibit age-appropriate wear and period-correct joinery.

Pairing historical wooden tables with minimalist modern seating or placing them beside clean-lined sofas creates a balanced eclectic interior that highlights the craftsmanship of the antique piece without overwhelming the space.

Preservation requires keeping wooden items out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources to prevent veneer lifting, dusting regularly with a dry soft cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to protect the polish.
