FAQs

Blanc de Chine, translating to white from China, refers to white porcelain made in Dehua, Fujian province, famous for its rich history dating back to the Ming dynasty and celebrated for its ivory or milk-white glaze.

Traditional Dehua ware uses a unique local porcelain stone with low iron content, fired in wood-burning dragon kilns, which produces a distinctive vitreous body where the glaze melds seamlessly with the clay.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit a creamy, uniform glaze tone without pooling of bluish tints, crisp moulded or hand-carved details, and age-appropriate wear or unglazed foot rims revealing the granular paste beneath.

Position the piece as a focal point on a dark wood console or within a glass-fronted cabinet, allowing its neutral monochrome palette to contrast cleanly against textured backgrounds or modern minimalist surroundings.

Clean the figurine gently using a soft, dry brush to remove dust, avoid immersion in water if there are any historical repairs, and keep it displayed away from direct sunlight and areas prone to accidental knocks.
