Curling originated on frozen lochs and ponds in Scotland during the sixteenth century, initially played with flat-bottomed stones from riverbeds before standardized circular granite stones were introduced in the nineteenth century.

Authentic antique curling stones are traditionally crafted from dense, weather-resistant granites sourced from specific Scottish quarries, featuring fitted metal bolts and wooden or metal handles.

Authenticity is identified through the specific geological composition of the granite, makers marks or foundry stamps on the metal components, and natural weathering patterns consistent with age and outdoor use.

These dense stone objects function well as heavy doorstops, hearth ornaments, or sculptural floor elements in rustic or traditional schemes.

Preserve the stone and metal components by cleaning with a soft brush and warm water, avoiding harsh chemical treatments, and applying a light microcrystalline wax to protect metallic fittings from oxidation.
