Traditional Berber doors originate from the indigenous communities of North Africa, particularly the Atlas Mountain regions of Morocco, where they served as functional entrances to homes and granaries, often featuring symbolic geometric carvings for protection.

These doors are typically constructed from native hardwoods such as cedar, walnut, or pine, joined using traditional mortise and tenon techniques without modern metal fasteners, and hand-carved using iron chisels.

Authentic pieces exhibit natural weathering, genuine hand-tool marks, traditional iron or wooden pivot hinges, and patination consistent with age and exposure to the elements rather than artificial distressing.

Such panels can be mounted securely to a feature wall as a statement art piece, repurposed as a unique headboard, or displayed standing upright against an empty wall as a sculptural focal point.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels away from direct heat sources, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners, and occasionally applying natural beeswax to nourish the dry wood fibres.
