FAQs

Continental bedside tables from the 19th century typically feature dense exotic hardwoods, elegant proportions, and fine joinery characteristic of European cabinetmaking traditions.

These pieces are generally constructed from solid timber and veneers of rosewood, often utilising traditional mortise and tenon joinery alongside hand-turned spindles and dovetailed drawers.

Authenticity is identified through period-appropriate tool marks, timber shrinkage patterns, hand-cut dovetails, and the natural patina developed on the rosewood surface over decades of use.

Pairing dark wood antique tables with contemporary minimalist lighting and neutral bedding creates a balanced, layered aesthetic that highlights the rich grain of the timber.

Maintain rosewood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying appropriate natural waxes to nourish the timber.
