FAQs

Victorian furniture encompasses a range of revival styles popular during the reign of Queen Victoria, characteristically featuring heavy proportions, dark woods, and intricate hand-carved ornamentation inspired by Gothic, Elizabethan, and Rococo traditions.

Pieces from this era were predominantly crafted from solid native timbers such as oak, mahogany, and walnut, employing traditional joinery techniques like mortise and tenon joints, hand-cut dovetails, and pegged frames to ensure structural longevity.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting the timber for age-related patina, tool marks from hand-working, irregular grain patterns, and period-appropriate joinery without modern metal fasteners or synthetic glues.

An imposing antique table anchors a contemporary space effectively when contrasted with minimalist seating, modern lighting fixtures, and neutral backgrounds that allow the historic craftsmanship to stand out.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent timber warping or fading, and cleaning only with a soft dry cloth or periodic applications of traditional beeswax.
