Victorian dining tables often feature rich dark woods, substantial proportions, and ornate carved pedestal bases influenced by classical revival movements.

Cabinetmakers primarily used dense hardwoods such as rosewood, mahogany, and walnut, often utilising solid timber and intricate veneers over secondary pine or oak carcases.

Authenticity is assessed by examining traditional hand-cut joinery, the natural grain and heavy weight of genuine Brazilian rosewood, and the presence of period-appropriate wear and patination.

Pairing a dark wood circular table with contemporary seating creates a striking juxtaposition, anchoring an open-plan dining space with historical gravitas.

Maintain antique rosewood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and treat the surface periodically with traditional beeswax to nourish the timber.
