A William IV circular dining table in warm brown rosewood dates from around 1830. The top displays book-matched rosewood veneer with a square edge and a brass bottom edge beneath a lip. It has a central octagonal tapered column stem, turned details at the bottom, and a circular plinth base resting on four curved scroll feet with brass castors and brass spandrels. An original brass catch sits underneath, and the top lifts off the base. The timber exhibits a deep colour and patination. Measuring 74.5 cm high, 127 cm wide, and 127 cm deep, the table seats six comfortably. It works well as a dining or centre table in a reception room or dining room.

William IV rosewood dining tables, dating from around 1830 to 1837, are noted for their heavy classical proportions, bold pedestal bases, and rich, highly figured book-matched veneers. They often bridge the transition between fine Regency elegance and the heavier ornamentation of the Victorian era.

These tables were typically constructed with a solid timber core, such as mahogany or pine, overlaid with high-grade Brazilian rosewood veneers. Structural elements and decorative mounts often incorporated brass, cast iron tilt mechanisms, and solid brass castors.

Authentic pieces feature period-correct joinery, original brass tilt-top snap latches or bolt fixings beneath the top, and hand-cut veneering. Look for age-appropriate oxidisation on the timber underside and natural wear to the brass castors and fittings.

A circular dining table serves as an effective focal point in both traditional dining rooms and open-plan modern spaces. Pairing rich rosewood with minimalist contemporary dining chairs or modern pendant lighting creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and contemporary design.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year to nourish the wood. Keep the item away from direct sunlight, strong heat sources, and excess moisture to prevent veneer lifting or fading.
