Description

I will always buy original Spanish olive pots when I can as I honestly believe no other pot can add the same level of quality rustic charm as these. They are hand thrown terracotta, very thick and show signs handsomely of years of use. These pots were usually owned by one family for their entire life and re used constantly. This is why you will see occasionally olive pots that have been stapled as if these broke they were expensive to replace and were often repaired which is a very romantic look back at country life.

This example is a dusty blue with circular details around the neck. The scale and colour make this hugely decorative and can be filled or left as is.

Spanish olive jars were traditionally utilised across the Iberian Peninsula for the storage and transport of olive oil, wine, and other agricultural goods. Crafted in rural potteries, their robust forms were designed for durability and practical utility.

These vessels are constructed from locally sourced terracotta clay, thrown or coiled by hand, and often finished with a rudimentary glaze or slip. The firing process took place in wood-burning kilns, resulting in varied surface patination and earthen tones.

Authentic 19th-century jars display consistent surface wear, mineral deposits, firing imperfections, and historical repair marks reflective of utilitarian use. The weight of the dense terracotta and natural weathering patterns are key indicators of age.

These jars function well as standalone sculptural objects or floor accents in minimalist spaces to introduce texture and historical contrast. They can be displayed empty or styled with dried botanicals to emphasise their architectural silhouette.

Terracotta is a porous material and should be protected from freezing temperatures if placed outdoors to prevent cracking. Cleaning should be limited to gentle dusting with a dry cloth to preserve the historical surface finish and accumulated patina.
