Regency games tables gained popularity during the early 19th century as social pastimes like card games became a central feature of elite domestic entertainment.

These pieces typically utilised dense hardwoods such as satinwood and mahogany, featuring intricate contrasting veneers like ebony and boxwood, alongside hand-cut dovetail joints and brass hinges.

Authentication involves examining the timber grain, hand-cut joinery, type of secondary woods used in the interior frame, and natural oxidisation or wear patterns consistent with early 19th-century manufacturing.

Pairing the warm golden tones of satinwood with minimalist modern seating or placing it against a neutral wall allows the detailed craftsmanship and inlay to serve as a focal point.

Maintain wood moisture levels by avoiding direct sunlight and extreme temperature shifts, and treat surfaces periodically with high-grade microcrystalline wax while avoiding liquid polishes.
