Treen refers to small domestic and agricultural wooden items made from the 16th to the early 20th century. Dairy bowls were specifically turned on a lathe from dense hardwoods like sycamore or maple to hold milk during the cream-skimming process.

These vessels were typically turned on foot-powered or water-powered pole lathes from green timber such as sycamore, ash, or elm. Sycamore was heavily favored for dairy use because it does not impart any strong flavour or colour to milk products.

Authenticity is indicated by tool marks left from lathe turning, shrinkage cracks, natural patination from age and use, and the absence of modern power-tool indicators. Sycamore pieces often show characteristic dark speckling or staining from historical use.

Antique wooden vessels add warmth and texture to minimalist or contemporary schemes. They can be displayed empty on a kitchen island, coffee table, or shelf to highlight their sculptural form and organic grain.

Keep wooden treen away from direct heat sources, extreme humidity fluctuations, and never submerge them in water or place them in a dishwasher. Maintain the surface using food-safe mineral oils or traditional beeswax to prevent the timber from drying out.
