A quaich is a traditional Scottish drinking vessel featuring two or sometimes three handles, known as lugs, originating in the Highlands as a cup of friendship or welcome.

Traditional quaichs were typically carved from single blocks of native wood such as laburnum, boxwood, or maple, or constructed using staves held together with wood or metal bands.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit period tool marks, appropriate timber shrinkage, honest wear patterns, and sometimes inset coins or traditional stave construction methods consistent with nineteenth-century craftsmanship.

Displaying the piece on a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or side table introduces organic warmth, historic texture, and a point of conversational interest to modern or traditional spaces.

Preserve wooden objects by keeping them away from direct sunlight and strong heat sources, occasionally treating dry timber with food-safe mineral oil or specialized wax.
