FAQs

Salt glazing is a historic pottery technique where common salt is introduced into the kiln during high-temperature firing, producing a characteristic textured, glossy finish that provides exceptional durability for outdoor use.

These vessels are crafted from heavy stoneware clay thrown or moulded into classical forms, then treated with a salt glaze that reacts with the silica in the clay body to create a dense, impervious surface.

Authenticity is typically determined by examining the weight of the stoneware, the consistency of the salt glaze texture, historic firing scars, and natural weathering patterns consistent with age.

Positioning these urns symmetrically at an entranceway or along a terrace provides an architectural focal point that anchors contemporary garden layouts with traditional grounding.

To prevent frost damage during freezing weather, ensure proper drainage or empty the containers, and clean them periodically with a soft brush and water to maintain the integrity of the glaze.
