FAQs

Mid-century brass and leather etageres combine structural metallic framing with inset leather surfaces, often influenced by French Neoclassical and Hollywood Regency styles. Features frequently include faux-bamboo reeding, turned corner finials, and gold-leaf tooling on the leather panels.

These tables were typically constructed from solid or lacquered brass tubing and cast joints, paired with hide leather inserts. The leather surfaces were finished with decorative blind or gold-foil embossing along the borders.

Authentic pieces demonstrate natural patination on the brass finish rather than uniform modern plating, along with genuine leather exhibiting age-appropriate surface wear. Structural elements usually feature threaded screw fixings and heavy cast metal joints rather than lightweight welded steel.

A two-tier table serves effectively as a sofa side table or lamp stand in living areas, or as a bedside table in bedrooms. The upper tier provides space for lighting or decorative objects, while the lower tier offers functional storage for books and media.

Clean brass framework using a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh abrasive polishes that strip protective lacquers or natural patina. Leather inserts should be wiped with a slightly damp cloth and treated periodically with a neutral leather conditioner to prevent drying and cracking.
