FAQs

Curling originated on frozen lochs and ponds in Scotland during the sixteenth century, initially played with flat-bottomed stones from riverbeds before standardized circular granite stones were introduced in the nineteenth century.

Authentic curling stones are crafted from specific types of durable granite, such as Ailsa Craig granite, paired with metal handles made from brass or iron alongside wooden grips.

Authenticity is determined by the geological composition of the granite, maker stamps or foundry marks on the metal handle, and the characteristic wear patterns consistent with outdoor ice play.

Due to their substantial weight and sculptural form, these stones function effectively as heavy doorstops, hearth ornaments, or standalone floor display pieces in rustic or traditional schemes.

Preservation involves dusting with a dry cloth and occasionally applying neutral wax or oil to metal components to prevent oxidisation while leaving the granite surface unsealed.
