Imari porcelain originates from the town of Arita in Hizen province, Japan, and was extensively exported to Europe from the late 17th century through the port of Imari.

These items are crafted from fine local clay, finished with an underglaze cobalt blue and an overglaze of iron red, often highlighted with gilt details fixed by a secondary low-temperature firing.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit a slightly grainy paste, minor firing imperfections, characteristic unglazed foot rims, and a distinct palette combining cobalt blue with iron red and gold.

Such decorative vessels can be displayed on a sideboard or mantelpiece as a focal point, bringing rich colour and historical texture to minimalist or eclectic modern schemes.

Clean gently with a soft, dry cloth or lukewarm water with mild soap when necessary, avoiding harsh detergents, abrasive materials, and direct sunlight to protect the fragile overglaze enamels.
