Rowland Ward was a famous British taxidermist and publisher based in London during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, known for creating high-end exotic leather goods and taxidermy items for the British elite.

These items typically utilised genuine exotic hides such as crocodile, alligator, or an elephant hide, often mounted over rigid wooden or papier-mache cores with felt or leather backing.

Authentic pieces often feature makers marks, stamps, or labels from prominent London firms like Rowland Ward, combined with period-appropriate stitching, patina, and genuine hide characteristics.

Such pieces can be styled as textural focal points on a dark wood desk, bookshelf, or coffee table to add a layer of historical curiosity and organic texture to a study or living space.

Preserve these items by keeping them out of direct sunlight to prevent drying and fading, and occasionally treating the leather or hide with a specialized, museum-approved conditioner.
