Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The William IV period spans roughly from 1830 to 1837, acting as a transitional phase between Regency and early Victorian design. It is characterised by robust proportions, classical architectural motifs such as columns and pilasters, and a preference for heavy, dark timbers like mahogany.

Authentic pieces from this era typically utilise solid mahogany and fine mahogany veneers applied to secondary woods like pine or oak. Construction features include hand-cut dovetail joints, traditional mortise and tenon joinery, and hand-applied shellac or wax finishes.

Authentication relies on inspecting timber patination, tool marks, and construction techniques consistent with the 1830s. Genuine pieces exhibit age-appropriate wear, hand-turned or hand-carved details, and original mirror glass with foxing where applicable.

These pieces function effectively in hallways, living rooms, or dining spaces as focal points. Pairing them with modern minimalist lamps or abstract art creates a balanced contrast between historical craftsmanship and contemporary aesthetics.

Maintenance requires keeping wooden furniture out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources to prevent timber splitting. Cleaning should be restricted to dusting with a soft, dry cloth and occasional application of quality beeswax.
