Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

A Sutherland table is a type of narrow drop-leaf table characterised by its ability to fold down into a very compact size with flaps that drop nearly vertically, first appearing in the Victorian era and remaining popular through the Edwardian period.

These tables were predominantly crafted from hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, and sometimes oak, often featuring fine brass castors and delicate turned wooden legs supporting the folding flaps.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit period construction techniques such as hand-cut dovetails where applicable, traditional wood ageing, original brass or ceramic castors, and characteristic Edwardian design proportions.

Its compact, space-saving design makes it suitable for use as a versatile side table, occasional desk, or behind a sofa, where it can be opened up only when extra surface area is required.

Maintain the wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking, and periodically treat the surface with high-quality beeswax rather than silicone-based polishes.
