Georgian wine tables are small, portable occasional tables produced during the reigns of the Kings George in the 18th and early 19th centuries, specifically designed to hold glasses and bottles during evening social gatherings.

These tables are traditionally crafted from solid dense hardwoods such as mahogany or oak, featuring turned central pillars, tripod cabriole legs, and often a clever birdcage or block mechanism that allows the top to tilt vertically when not in use.

Authenticity is determined by examining hand-cut dovetails, traditional joinery without modern metal screws, natural timber shrinkage, patination consistent with age, and hand-turned components that display subtle irregularities.

A historical tripod table works effectively as a functional accent piece beside a modern sofa or as a display surface for lighting and ceramics, contrasting effectively against clean contemporary lines.

Preserve antique mahogany by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, applying microcrystalline wax periodically, and avoiding silicone-based polishes.
