The Regency style, spanning roughly from 1811 to 1830, draws heavily on classical Greek, Roman, and Egyptian motifs, characterised by architectural proportions, restrained ornamentation, and the use of exotic timbers like rosewood and mahogany.

Master cabinetmakers typically utilised dense tropical hardwoods such as rosewood and mahogany, often applied as veneers over solid secondary timbers, featuring hand-turned pedestals, mortise and tenon joinery, and intricate carved detailing.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery, hand-cut screws or early metal fixings, natural patina showing age and wear beneath the polish, and structural characteristics consistent with workshop practices of the early nineteenth century.

Pairing a dark wood antique table with minimalist modern seating or placing it against a neutral backdrop creates a striking contrast that highlights the rich grain of the timber and grounds the room with historical weight.

Maintain stable indoor humidity levels away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, and apply traditional beeswax periodically while avoiding synthetic sprays or excessive moisture.
