Rouen faience is a type of tin-glazed earthenware produced in the French city of Rouen, particularly famous during the 17th and 18th centuries for its distinctive polychrome and blue-and-white designs inspired by Chinese porcelain and contemporary French motifs.

Faience is crafted from a buff or red earthenware body covered with an opaque tin-oxide glaze, which provides a white surface suitable for hand-painting with metallic oxide pigments before a final kiln firing.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit characteristic weight, minor glaze imperfections, hand-painted brushwork with soft edges, and unglazed foot rims showing the aged body of the earthenware.

An antique ceramic platter can be mounted on a wall as sculptural art or displayed securely on a stand within a cabinet or shelf to introduce historic texture and colour to contemporary spaces.

Antique ceramics should be kept away from direct sunlight and extreme temperature fluctuations, cleaned only with a dry or lightly damp soft cloth, and never immersed in water or placed in a dishwasher.
