Regency furniture, spanning the late 18th to early 19th centuries, is characterised by classical archaeological influences inspired by ancient Greece, Rome, and Egypt, often featuring symmetrical forms and dark exotic timbers.

Cabinet makers frequently utilised native oaks and mahoganies, alongside imported luxury veneers such as goncalo alves, rosewood, and zebrawood, applied over secondary pine or deal carcases.

Authenticity is typically verified by examining hand-cut dovetails, traditional joinery methods, natural timber shrinkage, oxidisation patterns, and the presence of old beeswax finishes rather than modern lacquers.

A historical pedestal table can serve as a focal point in a modern hallway or dining space, contrasting clean architectural lines with rich natural wood grain and patination.

Maintenance requires keeping timber items away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent splitting, periodic application of high-quality beeswax, and dusting with a soft, dry cloth.
