FAQs

The Arts and Crafts movement emerged in the late 19th century as a reaction against mass production, emphasising traditional craftsmanship, visible construction methods, and simple, functional forms.

Cabinet makers typically utilised solid hardwoods such as oak and mahogany, employing traditional joinery techniques like mortise and tenon joints with exposed wooden pegs rather than modern metal fasteners.

Authentic pieces generally display honest construction with visible grain patterns, hand-planed surfaces, subtle tool marks, and minimal ornamentation, often focusing purely on the natural beauty of the timber.

Pairing a historic wooden table with minimalist modern seating creates a balanced contrast that highlights the architectural lines and rich texture of the antique timber.

Maintain antique wooden surfaces by keeping them away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and applying natural beeswax periodically to nourish the grain.
