The Jacobean and Carolean periods spanned the 17th century in England, characterised by heavy, sturdy construction, dark woods like oak, and elaborate geometric or botanical carvings influenced by Renaissance and Mannerist designs.

These tables were constructed primarily from solid native oak, featuring thick plank tops joined by dowels and pegged mortise and tenon joints, supported by substantial turned legs connected by floor-level stretchers.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-planed surfaces, irregular tool marks, hand-cut peg joints, and natural timber shrinkage, along with deep patination developed over centuries of oxidation and use.

Pair the heavy wooden piece with modern minimalist seating, such as polished metal or upholstered chairs, and position it under a sleek, contemporary pendant light to create a striking contrast between old and new.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct heat sources and sunlight, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish and protect the aged wood surface.
