Tripod tables gained popularity during the 18th and 19th centuries in Britain, often utilised as tea tables, candle stands, or occasional tables due to their portability and space-saving design.

These tables are traditionally constructed from solid hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, featuring a central turned pillar supported by three cabriole or straight legs, frequently joined by a birdcage or tilt-top mechanism.

Authentication involves examining construction details such as hand-cut dovetails, traditional joinery, patination, timber shrinkage, and tool marks consistent with period manufacturing techniques.

An antique tripod table functions effectively as a bedside table, a side table beside a modern sofa, or a display surface for ceramics and table lamps, contrasting period character with contemporary decor.

Maintain antique oak by keeping it out of direct sunlight, avoiding excessive humidity changes, and periodically applying microcrystalline wax to nourish and protect the wood finish.
