FAQs

The George I period, spanning from 1714 to 1727, bridges the gap between Baroque and early Rococo styles, characterised by a transition towards lighter forms, curved lines, and the widespread adoption of mahogany as a primary timber.

These tables were constructed primarily using dense hardwoods like mahogany or oak, featuring pegged mortise and tenon joints, hand-turned swing legs to support the leaves, and traditional timber shrinkage allowances.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate tool marks such as pit sawing on secondary woods, hand-cut dovetails, genuine patina, and wear patterns consistent with age rather than artificial distressing.

Pairing a historic wooden table with modern minimalist seating or placing it against a neutral wall creates a balanced focal point that bridges traditional craftsmanship with contemporary living spaces.

Maintain antique timber by keeping it away from direct heat sources and sunlight, avoiding silicone-based polishes, and periodically applying a microcrystalline wax to nourish and protect the finish.
