FAQs

The Georgian period spans the reigns of the first four British monarchs named George from 1714 to 1830, characterised by a transition from heavy, dark woods to more refined proportions, classical symmetry, and the introduction of distinct regional designs.

Cabinetmakers predominantly utilised domestic timbers such as oak, elm, and walnut, employing traditional joinery techniques including dovetail joints for drawers, tenon construction, and hand-turned or carved supports without the use of modern metal fasteners.

Authenticity is typically verified by examining hand-cut dovetails, irregular tool marks from pit-saws, natural timber shrinkage, oxidisation and wear patterns appropriate to age, and original or period-correct brass hardware fittings.

Placing a historical timber piece alongside contemporary minimalist upholstery or sleek metallic accents creates a balanced interior scheme that highlights the natural grain and texture of the aged wood.

Maintenance involves avoiding direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity levels to prevent timber splitting, applying microcrystalline wax periodically to nourish the finish, and refraining from using silicone-based commercial polishes.
