FAQs

Confectioners tables were traditionally used in 19th-century French bakeries and patisseries. The cool marble surface provided an ideal hygienic workspace for kneading dough, rolling pastry, and cooling sugar work.

These tables typically feature a heavy, solid timber framefrequently oak or fruitwoodjoined using traditional mortise and tenon techniques, topped with a thick slab of white or grey-veined Carrara-style marble.

Authenticity is indicated by hand-cut joinery, timber patination showing decades of wear, subtle iron brackets underneath for stabilisation, and natural variations or old chips on the heavy marble slab.

This piece works well as a kitchen island, a preparation surface, or a distinctive console table. Contrast the cool industrial stone with warm textiles, ceramic pottery, or vintage copper cookware.

Marble is porous and sensitive to acids like citrus or vinegar, so use coasters and sealing agents regularly. Clean the timber frame with a soft, dry cloth and nourish the wood periodically with traditional beeswax.
