FAQs

The Aesthetic Movement emerged in the late 19th century, promoting the philosophy of art for arts sake and drawing inspiration from Japanese design, simplicity, and fine craftsmanship.

These tables were typically crafted from dense hardwoods like walnut, mahogany, or ebonised timber, often featuring intricate joinery and turned or bobbin legs.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery, natural timber ageing, traditional hand-finished surfaces, and design motifs characteristic of the 1870s to 1890s.

Position it as a functional side table or accent piece alongside contemporary upholstery to create a layered, collected interior that highlights its historical texture.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the wood.
