Treen refers to small, functional or decorative wooden household objects made by turning or carving. While produced for centuries, finely turned domestic treen reached a peak in popularity during the 18th and 19th centuries in Britain and Europe.

Craftsmen typically utilised dense, fine-grained hardwoods such as boxwood, fruitwood, sycamore, and maple, which allowed for precise lathe-turning and took a smooth, polished finish.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit tool marks from manual lathe-turning, natural wear patterns consistent with age, shrinkage cracks, and a deep patina developed through handling over generations.

These tactile wooden objects work well displayed in small groupings on bookshelves, mantelpieces, or inside glass cabinets, adding warmth, texture, and historical interest to modern spaces.

Treen should be cleaned using only a dry, soft cloth to remove dust. Avoid water, harsh chemicals, and modern synthetic polishes, applying a microcrystalline wax sparingly only if the wood appears dry.
