FAQs

French console tables from the 19th century typically feature classical architectural proportions, rich wood veneers such as walnut, and often incorporate contrasting marble tops for a formal aesthetic.

These tables are constructed using solid timber frames overlaid with figured walnut veneers, paired with heavy stone slabs like grey or white marble, and joined using traditional mortise and tenon techniques.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the hand-cut joinery, the natural ageing and grain patination of the walnut timber, the weight and veining of the marble, and the presence of period-appropriate fixings.

Such a console table serves as a focal point in an entrance hall or living room, providing a surface for lamps and decorative objects while contrasting traditional warmth with modern minimalist surroundings.

Maintain walnut surfaces by dusting with a soft cloth and applying periodic beeswax polish, while protecting marble tops from acidic spills and moisture using coasters or protective pads.
