An antique tripod table is a small, moveable occasional table supported by a central pillar resting on three legs, commonly produced in Britain from the 18th century onwards for serving tea or displaying decorative objects.

These tables are traditionally constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany or oak, featuring turned central columns, hand-cut dovetails or tenon joints, and three splayed legs often attached via a birdcage or block mechanism.

Authenticity is determined by examining the timber grain, tool marks, patination, and construction joinery, ensuring historical accuracy in the turning methods and natural wear patterns consistent with age.

This piece works effectively as an accent table beside a sofa or in an empty corner, providing a functional surface for a lamp while introducing historical warmth and texture to contemporary schemes.

Preserve the timber by keeping the table away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent warping, and clean periodically using a soft, dry cloth and traditional beeswax rather than modern silicon sprays.
