This pair of eighteenth-century French Provincial carved walnut panels displays a dark brown finish with distinct grain variations visible across the timber surfaces. Each panel features deep relief figurative carvings depicting dancing scenes enclosed within arched cartouches framed by elaborate Rococo scrollwork. Additional details include decorative mouldings along the arched tops, carved vertical fluting on the central dividing trim, and brass keyhole escutcheons mounted centrally on the edges. The timber shows surface wear consistent with age, including minor grain splits and natural distressing throughout the carved areas. Each panel measures 109 cm high, 57 cm wide, and 4 cm deep. These items suit placement as wall art above a sideboard in a dining room or hallway.

During the 18th century, particularly under the reign of Louis XV, French artisans produced carved walnut panels for provincial armoires, cupboard doors, and architectural panelling. These pieces featured regional craftsmanship with rococo cartouches, scrolls, and figurative scenes inspired by classical or pastoral themes.

Craftsmen utilized dense European walnut wood, carving high-relief details by hand with chisels and gouges. Panels were fitted using mortise and tenon joinery, often completed with hand-forged brass or iron escutcheons and hardware.

Authentic period panels display hand-tool marks, uneven saw marks on the reverse side, and natural shrinkage along the timber grain. The brass hardware should exhibit age-appropriate oxidisation and cast irregularities rather than modern machine uniformities.

These decorative panels can be wall-mounted above a console table or sideboard to serve as architectural artwork. They can also be integrated into modern custom cabinetry or repurposed as a bedhead in a bedroom setting.

Dust the detailed carvings regularly using a soft, dry brush. Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and apply a thin layer of natural beeswax polish annually to protect the original finish and maintain the wood patina.
