This “Pair of French Antique Card / Console Tables ” found a buyer.

Description

A magnificent pair of French antique card / console tables. They were made in France, they are signed by the maker E.P December 1859.

The quality is absolutely amazing, they are beautifully designed with some incredibly fine features. The gilt bronze ormolu mounts are exquisitely cast with beautiful details and just the right colour tone. They are made from solid and inlaid rosewood, walnut and various other woods. There is profuse inlay on all sides, even the backs. The tops display wonderful floral marquetry and both are remarkably signed by the cabinet maker in inlaid wood. The back legs pull out and the tops unfold to reveal baize lined playing surfaces. The baize has worn more on one table than the other, it has beautifully embossed edges so we have left as is. They could be re-baized if desired.

They would work perfectly as a pair of console tables and would look absolutely stunning in a variety of settings.

We have had them re-polished with some finely executed restoration to the top of one table. The condition is excellent for their age.

French antique card tables typically feature intricate marquetry, serpentine lines, and cabriole legs, reflecting the refined craftsmanship of periods such as Louis XV or Louis XVI.

These tables are commonly constructed from solid hardwoods like walnut, mahogany, or oak, veneered with exotic woods and detailed with hand-cut brass or gilt bronze mounts.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, traditional animal-protein glues, aged patinas on the wood, and subtle irregularities in the hand-cut marquetry inlay.

They can be used as versatile console tables against a hallway wall or opened up to serve as a distinctive focal point in a traditional living space.

Maintain these tables by keeping them away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and clean them periodically using a soft, dry cloth without harsh chemical polishes.
