A Pembroke table is a form of small drop-leaf table with hinged flaps on either side, which became particularly popular during the 18th century and experienced a revival in quality Edwardian reproductions.

These tables are traditionally constructed from solid mahogany and veneered panels, frequently embellished with contrasting satinwood stringing, boxwood inlay, and mounted with brass drop handles and castors.

Authentic pieces typically feature period-appropriate timber grain, hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawer construction, oxidised brass hardware, and subtle variations characteristic of hand-craftsmanship rather than modern machinery.

Positioned against a wall with one or both flaps dropped, it functions effectively as a decorative console or writing desk, opening up to provide extra surface space when entertaining guests.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent warping, and nourish the polished surface periodically with traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone sprays.
