Georgian style tables, spanning the reigns of the Kings George from 1714 to 1830, are characterised by classical proportions, refined craftsmanship, and a transition from heavier walnut to rich mahogany as the primary timber.

These pieces were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany or imported hardwoods, featuring hand-turned pedestals, mortise and tenon joinery, and often incorporating a birdcage or catch mechanism to allow the top to tilt.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the hand-cut joinery, timber shrinkage patterns, tool marks from hand planes, oxidisation of the wood grain, and the presence of traditional wrought iron or brass fixings.

A traditional pedestal table provides functional surface space and historic contrast when placed beside a modern sofa or in an empty corner, pairing effectively with contemporary minimalist seating to balance eras.

Preserve the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent splitting, applying microcrystalline wax periodically, and avoiding silicone-based polishes.
