Dairy and prep tables originated in farmhouses and dairies during the 18th and 19th centuries, specifically designed for food preparation, butter churning, and scullery tasks due to their practical work surfaces.

These tables were typically constructed from durable native softwoods like deal and pine, featuring robust mortise and tenon joints, plain scrubbed tops, and often hand-turned wooden knobs on drawers.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, genuine patina from decades of scrubbing and use, historic tool marks, and appropriate timber shrinkage.

This piece works effectively as a kitchen island, a console in a hallway, or a practical workspace, paired with minimalist contemporary elements to highlight its historical texture.

Maintain the wood by avoiding direct sunlight and excessive moisture, cleaning gently with a dry or barely damp cloth, and occasionally applying natural beeswax to nourish the dry timber.
