Description

An excellent original antique William IV mahogany dining table. This was made in England, it dates from around the 1830-40’s period.

It is of superb quality and is a very useful size. It could be used as a dining / kitchen table or even as a centre table in a large entry way. The circular top has a cross banded edge, the mahogany grain patterns are gorgeous, this has acquired a beautiful colour tone and patina. The top can be tilted to save space, it sits on a mahogany platform base, with bun feet and casters below.

We have had this re-polished, the condition is excellent for its age. There are just some minor wear and age related marks beneath the polish here and there, all adding to the character.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The William IV style, spanning the 1830s, bridges late Regency and early Victorian aesthetics, characterised by heavy proportions, scroll feet, and robust pedestal bases.

Craftsmen predominantly utilised solid mahogany and flame mahogany veneers, frequently paired with secondary woods like pine or oak for internal framing.

Authentic pieces typically feature hand-cut joints, rich grain patterns with a deep patina, heavy central pedestals, and original brass or wooden castors.

Pairing a dark wood antique table with contemporary minimalist seating creates a striking contrast that anchors a modern dining space.

Maintain antique timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and treat it periodically with natural beeswax to nourish the wood.
