This nineteenth-century cheese dish and cover is in the Victorian style, rendered in blue and white jasperware, stoneware, and ceramic. The piece exhibits a vibrant blue background with contrasting white sprigged relief decoration, featuring a botanical foliage garland around both the cylindrical domed cover and the circular base plate, along with a top acorn finial. The glazed surfaces display signs of age with internal staining, while the exterior showcases detailed moulded relief work and a turned acorn handle set upon a snowflake-patterned motif on the lid. The assembled piece measures 22 cm high, 18 cm wide, and 18 cm deep. Suitable for an English Country House interior, the dish is designed for display and practical use on a sideboard top during dining or tea service. The piece serves as a functional tableware item or decorative display element in a traditional kitchen, dining room, or living space, bringing classic ceramic craftsmanship into a contemporary home setting.

Developed by Josiah Wedgwood in the 1770s, jasperware is an unglazed stoneware famous for its matte finish and contrasting white relief ornamentation, traditionally inspired by Neoclassical design.

Jasperware was crafted from high-fired stoneware clay coloured with metallic oxides, such as cobalt oxide for blue tones, with pre-moulded white ceramic motifs applied via a sprigging process before firing.

Authentic pieces feature sharp detail in the sprigged reliefs, a silky matte surface, consistent density in the stoneware, and impressed maker marks or numbers on the underside of the base.

A jasperware cheese dish serves as a refined centrepiece on a dining table, kitchen island, or dining room sideboard, harmonising with both traditional country decor and contemporary stone surfaces.

Wash gently by hand using warm water and a mild detergent, employing a soft-bristled brush to remove dust from around the raised relief work, while avoiding abrasive pads or chemical solvents.
