Description

This appealing Edwardian light oak luggage rack was once the property of Esso - the vintage trade label (see image) affixed to the frame points to this. Esso probably chose it for one of their hotel interiors because it is of superior quality, excellent condition, and appealing colour. Also, unlike many of the more utilitarian luggage racks, this oversized example, with the addition of a glass top, is attractive enough to be used in several different ways. It would make a stylish and interesting bedside, coffee, lamp, or TV table, and of course, if placed at the end of a bed, it would look great supporting some vintage luggage. The cabinet-making is particularly fine; the oak has been well chosen and the stand is robust and thoughtfully designed. A decorative piece that would look good in both contemporary and period interiors.

Dealers Notes

Whenever possible Culvertons undertake the carriage of items within London and the home counties. Professional, competitive and trusted couriers and shipping companies are engaged for deliveries for the remainder of our customers. Smaller items, when instructed, will be carefully parcelled and securely sent by the carrier.

We strive to accurately describe and illustrate our stock on the 'Selling Antiques' website. However, we understand that it is not always possible to judge from photographs how an item will look in the home or garden. For this reason, if notified within seven days from the date of delivery we offer a full refund (less any agreed carriage costs) once the item has been returned in the same condition as it left our premises.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian furniture, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, often lighter in construction than heavy Victorian pieces, draws inspiration from earlier Georgian and Sheraton revivals, favouring clean lines and practicality.

These utility pieces were predominantly crafted from solid hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, selected for their durability and structural integrity under heavy travel trunks.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit traditional joinery, period-appropriate timber patination, hand-turned spindle or bobbin legs, and wear patterns consistent with early twentieth-century hotel or domestic use.

In contemporary spaces, this piece functions effectively as a functional guest room accessory, an extra surface for folded blankets, or a compact display stand in a hallway.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct heat sources and sunlight, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and applying natural beeswax periodically to nourish the wood grain.
