Staffordshire figures were produced primarily in the Staffordshire potteries in England during the 19th century, designed as inexpensive mantelpiece ornaments for the working and middle classes.

These figures are typically made from earthenware or pottery, moulded, hand-painted with coloured glazes, and often featured a distinctive textured encrusted clay finish to simulate wool or foliage.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit characteristic crazing in the glaze, hollow interior construction, hand-painted details with slight irregularities, and a lack of modern maker stamps, although some carried early registration or painted numerals.

They can be displayed on mantelpieces, open bookshelves, or console tables to add a touch of historical character and eclectic charm to contemporary spaces.

Dust gently with a soft, dry brush and avoid using water or chemical cleaners on antique porous glazes to prevent staining and degradation of the fragile painted surfaces.
