FAQs

The Regency style in British furniture design flourished during the early 19th century, characterised by a revival of classical Greek, Roman, and Egyptian motifs, alongside clean architectural lines and exquisite cabinet-making techniques.

Cabinet makers of the period primarily utilised native and exotic timbers such as mahogany, rosewood, and figured walnut, often accented with fine brass inlay, gilt mounts, and solid brass hardware.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit period construction methods such as hand-cut dovetails, traditional timber shrinkage patterns, old secondary woods, and genuine patination accumulated over centuries of use.

Pairing classical period pieces with minimalist modern furniture creates a sophisticated contrast, allowing the rich timber grain and sculptural forms to serve as a focal point in the room.

Maintain stable indoor humidity levels away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and periodically feed the timber with high-quality microcrystalline wax to protect the historic surface polish.
